Tom, as an ex silver jewelry manufacturer, I can vouch for what you say about abrasives in toothpaste. We used to use abrasives down to 8,000 grit, then polish to get rid of the 8,000 grit scratches.

The other night here in Mexico, someone decided that they liked my hood ornament alot. It is still firmly attached, but I cannot get it to stand up straight, can spin it, & it still has the spring intact but somehow it has decided to lay tilted toward the windshield, any tips for getting it to stand up straight?. And perhaps you may be able to help me with a similar problem with my other aged ornament. <G>

[diesel_mercedes] While we're on a headlight tangent...

My '92 300D needs the inside of the lens and reflector cleaned. I don't really want to take it apart if I can't find a new gasket to replace the one between the lens and reflector and I'd rather not use RTV. Not having much luck. Any suggestions?
