[diesel_mercedes] RE: dreaded ignition lock

Hi George ;

Your local Jeep Dealer will have the <MAGIC> Aerosol graphite stuff I've mentioned before ~ look in older posts to get the P/N . a can (about $11) lasts years , lubing every key lock in every car and house lock you own , making it *very* cost effective .

I do all the locks at the end of every summer and they all work great , smooth as silk .

Is that Portland Or. or Me. ? . how's the Wx. ? .

Well I've been so proud having remembered to turn my steering wheel at
right angles to the locking pin before I remove the key. Today I forgot
because I pulled straight into my driveway where I never park the
Mercedes so I could plug in my block heater (working like a treat in 22
degree weather). Whet out to start it and couldn't turn the key.
Fought with it for over an hour with graphite, banging, jiggling etc but
all failed. Finally I did what we have all been told never to do to
locks and flooded it with an aerosol penetrating oil. Key turned on the
first try.

I know I should replace the tumbler and disable the locking pin but I'm
going to leave everything uncovered and see what happens. Call me an
idiot.
