RE: Re: [diesel_mercedes] Orphan Electrical Wire...total disconnect! (83 300SD)

Ha!  Well...I *think* this is fairly recent, as I don't remember finding this dangling before.  And I have so many niggly electrical problems it seems hard to troubleshoot from the "symptom" end.

I realized all my attachments didn't attach... despite yahoo saying otherwise. oh well  I'll keep looking!

I am not sure, but I think ALL old Mercedes cars have wires that once went somewhere, but now just dangle. Some of this I suspect comes from mechanics who put new wiring in and did not bother to remove old wiring. Goof luck as you embark on a great adventure. There are some really good archival posts on cleaning out your radiator and engine.

Hello again!

Just yesterday I was able to fix what I feared was a spendy turbo issue when I noticed the end of my wastegate hose was all busted and open. I was able to snip the frayed end and re-attach and I've got my turbo back. Whew.

Emboldened by my simple success, and fearing the onslaught of colder weather I was preparing to do a coolant flush (loooooong overdue) and just taking a good look under the hood and I found an electrical wire - well a pair - that just END and are dangling.

It is a pair of wires that run along the inside driver fender side, all the way back up to the fuse box, no "stops" along the way. One may be a grounding wire as it could be a very faded brown, the other wire is blue with a green stripe. It is NOT: the wire that goes to the fan in front of the radiator, not the brown wires that ground in the chassis out of this larger group, OR the couple of wires that connect to the A/C "stuff".

If anyone can tell me more about what this is and where it's supposed to connect, that would be great...and if not that...some help on how *I* could figure that out would also be welcome.  Keep in mind, I am still a newbie! I'm happy to try looking at a wire diagram but I haven't yet been able to "read" one :)

I've posted some annotated pictures in the album: Betty and the Beginner but I'll also try to attach them below now that yahoo is getting all fancy.

Thanks in advance...

ps. engine was still too hot too late in the day so coolant flush will have to wait for Monday. wish me luck!
