[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Auto

Mixed driving , mostly SWMBO in town , silver bottle Power Service Cetane Boost .

23 miles , 23. MPG .

More than once I sat in the car , engine idling , AC turned to "refri" and waited for SWMBO to go shopping...

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Bendix vs ATE rear calipers 82 240D

It now stops well and you got a $50 coupon ? .

I'd say you came out _WAY_ ahead .

I hope you flushed & bled all four wheels until clean brake fluid came out .

The guy in the store and I agreed that I would buy another set from the store (he matched the online price) and then when they came in, I could match up a set and return the mismatched set (presumably for some other sucker to buy and install, who knows). So when the new set came in two days later, they were for the front. Tried again, and voila, a really great matched set of Bendix, just what I wanted, super nice. I did the return of the originals and installed them, they work great. Also, in the online deal, I got a $50 coupon for my next $100 online purchase. So I can now go online and buy $100 worth of oil change supplies for $50 and pick them up at the store. On top of that, the calipers were $56 apiece, which I think is a decent price. Overhauled in Canada of all places. The only downside was paying $16 apiece for brake hoses, which are all over the place for $5 - $10 online (plus shipping). So I overpaid by $20 for the hoses...so maybe I'm still $30 ahead on the deal.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : A Bit Of Smoke

Will do Rob ;

I bought an injector pop tester and need to replace the liquid filled pressure gauge on it as the U.S.P.S. apparently thought " Fragile ! handle with care ! " meant 'toss it out of the 747 as you low passed LAX & We'll catch it on the 2nd bounce '.

The needle just sits there in the liquid , far from it's post .

Lucky for me , I have access to lots and lots of trash and was able to find one of the$se Spendy gauges brandy new in the box , in a Dempster Dumpster , all I needs do is install it then do some pop testing , Tom's W-126 needs testing too and he has some spare injectors so we should be able to work up 10 good ones and see if maybe a bit less smoke .

His W-126 doesn't ever smoke that I see .

[diesel_mercedes] 190D won't go into first gear

I have a 1961 190Db that gets used about every five years.

Tired to move it about six months ago and it won’t go into first gear; has three on the tree.

It’ll go into second, third and reverse, with or without the clutch being pushed; won’t go into first.

I jacked one rear wheel off the ground; won’t go into first, with or without the clutch being depressed.

Other gears do connect the rear wheel to the motor. I can see the whole linkage that is outside the transmission and it is trying.

Any ideas?  Bill in Oregon
