[diesel_mercedes] Re : need a engine?

In San Fran ? .

Sounds good , almost too good to be true , sort of like asket (SP) .

I'm not so keen on new or reground cams but the rest sounds very good indeed , new chains & pistons , all new valves and so on , rebuilt IP & injectors......

We're trying to set $ aside to rebuild the 240D's engine and tranny this year .

[diesel_mercedes] Coolant Mix

I never use 60 % coolant , that's the distilled water part .

This time , per the bottles M-B mandated instructions , I will be mixing it 50/50 with distilled water as The San Gabiel Valley has water so hard you can drive _NAILS_ with it .

(makes darn good beer tho') .

There is no reason to mix 60% antifreeze, not for winter or for summer either.
50/50 has worked for me my whole life. Just saying, but nothing matters anyway.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Fuel Economy & Leaky Filter Bolt

Yes Max ;

Wa$ted fuel i$ ALWAYS bad ! .

I can't help it tho' ~ I went yard hopping with Tom Sunday and only _one_ bolt to be had , I took it but it was slurpy with fungus so -not- going on the car I just fungus treated (again) , besides , the lower O-Ring was rotten and fell off & got lost.... (I now have two O-Rings)

To - day I went to pick up the crush washers (yes , plural , I ordered spares) only to be met with a blank stare and " Dealer part only ") ~ that's fine , he gets me Dealer parts ona regular basis...... why not *this* time ? who knows .

I ran errands all day working my way East from L.A. to Arcadia where my local Mercedes Dealer is , stopping at every European Partshaus and Indie M-B Shop I knew , no joy . when I pulled into The Dealer I know enough to carry in my registration for the VIN , he looked it up on the EPC (same one I can't make work) and in time I showed him where to look for the part I needed , turns out there's two versions and I needed the engine serial # to discern which one , it was 107* F outside with the engine idling keeping SWMBO in cool comfort so I asked if maybe I cou simply order two of each one..... he smiled and said " but of _course_ ! we're supposed to stock them both so just come get the ones you need , no worries " .

So , out there it sits , stil dripping lightly , soon to be fixed .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Glow Plug Quality - Autolite

Autolites tend to stick to the head, then come apart when trying to remove

When I bought my car, it was a non runner with an OK body for the North East. I was on a mission to get it running quicly and for as little as possible.

I replaced all 5 glow plugs with autolites, they where available at the local chain for under 10 buck each.

That was 42K miles ago. it still starts fine, even in the winter with a double cycle.

Garaged over night, I seen it as cold as the teens in the garge, not often, mostly in the 20-40 degree F Dec-March inside, and park in the sun during the day while at work. No block heater at this time, it is on the list

So far so good with the autolites.
