How do i check the water pump on an 84 300sdd? I started car took off top radiatorhose and the water just stayed there. I would expect it to go down as ir recycled to engine?

good point Stan, I should have been more clear.
"out the top radiator hose, if connected to the block, and taken off at the
radiator."

HI Chuck.
dang, directly, I don't know, but am sure.
Logic would say, once warm, it should pump water out of the top radiator
hose.....or, the out to the heater core, should have good pressure.
I'd also submit taking the thermostat out, will make it run too hot.
They are made to use it, to the engines advantage, something regarding the
water not going through the radiator so fast it can't cool.
but, you will find several opinions regarding thermostats.
Good luck
Henry

Thanks Henry, the car is overheating. The thermostat is removed, is there a
way to check and see if the water pump is working?

is the car overheating?
also, the water sitting in the block, should achieve a 'static level' where
it sits, and is full.
IIRC ,you'll not see the water circulating, until the thermostat opens.
good luck

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Suggestion on "where to buy" Dash Cover Up"??
Eklers comes up because they bought Performance Products. Apparently Corvettes weren't providing enough business for them.
Performance was the only store I ever knew to get them. Performance now comes up as ecklersmbzparts for whatever reason. No prices at this link...maybe you have to call them...
http://www.ecklersmbzparts.com/mercedes-coverlay-dash-covers-1977-1995.html
Also there are many varieties on ebay, search for "mercedes dash cover" etc
