I've done a couple injector replacements (both 1978 300D's), and was able to get the heat shields out using my fingertip or fingernail. Find the finger that fits tightly enough, push it into the hole and it should come out with your finger when you lift it out. If you can get it to slide under your fingernail, you can flip it onto its edge and pull it out that way. I didn't have any luck with pliers, magnets or any other tools.
