Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Ponton

I am looking for a project car; unfortu-Nate-ly, no sooner do I get a free minute then some other necessity requires my attention. I've been working for over 10 days straight now without a day off and it will be at least another 3 before I have time.

I saw a Nash metropolitan on the road a couple days ago. The Ponton for $5k probably isn't a bad deal considering that the dollar will be worth less over the next few years. People seem to have nostalgia for the past and older cars seem to serve that need for some. So I see it as a way to have some fun and as an investment to some degree.

As a side note, when I was in my 20's (I'm 50 now) I could buy a used XKE for $900, an MGA for about $300 and so forth. Recently a dealer sold a used MG-TD in moderately restored & usable condition (ie not concours by any stretch) for about $20K. I notice that Craigslist has  a lot of older American iron for short money, now. When the economy comes back in full force, these will be of greater value. In a nearby city there is a guy who is offering a gasser Merc 2 door couple for $18K but no takers, so far. He is also offering at least one Shelby knock off for about $28k...no takers for it either.

Classic gasser repower; pardon the redundancy if you've already see it.
