There's one other consideration.. Couple of years ago, there was a piece going around the net about a fellow who had installed a 5 cyl. Deutz diesel truck engine in an old Ford pickup, was running the rig on raw crude oil, as pumped from the ground, no refining involved. The Deutz engine seems to use the same inline Bosch fuel pump that we use, and other than being air cooled, instead of liquid cooled, is otherwise similar, i.e. pre-chambers, glo plugs and high compression, and this led me to wonder if anybody had ever tried running the Mercedes on raw crude. Assuming you have access to a suitable light crude oil, not everything pumped from the ground would be suitable, but I suspect most eastern light crude would do..
