Yes , they can be taken apart & cleaned , maybe first find a Gas Station air hose with the squeezy thing on the end and use that to blow the switch out , they often are full of crap and dust etc. .
Electro-contact cleaner works O.K. too but nothing is going to be as good is dismounting the switch and every so carefully taking it apart and hand polishing the contacts inside it...
