So , fix the AC and _drive_ it home ~ we drive our '82 240D everywhere
~ it's comfy and safe , the early cars have the basic (better) AC system that's dead simple to repair and it'll keep the inside of the car cool even in blistering heat....

Just don't over speed it and it and you , will be fine and have a nice trip home to boot .
