Try to figure out what works and what doesn't and WHEN. My locking
system started not working a few months ago. I figured out if I had the
door locks in locked position my engine wouldn't shut off and if I
locked the car after getting out there was no vacuum when I returned.
Since the vacuum system is separate for "lock" and "unlock" I knew the
problem was in the "lock"circuit.
Under the plastic sill panels on each side of the front seats are all
the tubes routed to the doors, trunk, and fuel cover. Lift the carpets,
unsnap the three plastic rivets that hold the covers on and check out
each line with a vacuum tester. I eventually found the fuel cover
"lock" diaphragm was faulty. I could replace it for about $35 but I
just plugged it off for now and everything else works again.
