Tom, no speedo/odo could be blown fuse? Thanks for the info.
But since my speedo works, and the odo doesn't, I am guessing that it is mechanical with the gears. I will check the fuse anyway. Can't hurt.

In the 300SD (at least the 126 version) the speedo is electrical, not mechanical. But the odo runs mechanically off of the electrical speedo signal. So you can have speedo with failed ODO.
The ODO mechanical failure is pretty common, and the fix (it is usually all the same thing) is well documented, with pictures, on places like Diesel Giant, or Mercedessource, etc.
Mostly it involves careful opening up and regluing of one specific part that comes loose on a shaft.
