Had to comment on the VW bug...'63 with a tear top, 3 different colors of blue, no brakes, had to push start it, back wing window punched out by former owner. All for $300! That was the first car I paid for.
Anyhow...I looked into VW Bug diesels a few years ago. Very roomy, comfortable, spunky. Waaaay expensive! New was $26K! Then they banned them from the US for a year due to the motor. I can't remember what it was all about. I had a mechanic friend that said they are junk and every time they come into his shop it's automatically $1K! Yikes!
On the other hand, Kevin had a VW before we met. He loved it and to this day wishes he still had it. I think it was a rabbit. My old bug ran and ran on paper clips and bailing wire! (and crossed fingers)
