I do not believe that there is a kickdown switch on manual trannies.

Where can you get split boots?  Have you looked at what needs to be done to replace an OEM boot?  Most people opt for a rebuilt axle.  I'd like to get some split boots but I haven't been able to find a source.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Throttle linkage adjust = less power = can't get it back

Obviously, I am chasing gremlins here.
The ALDA does not hold pressure.  I rigged up a bicycle pump (that has a pressure gauge) and pumped it (1st into the other end of the hard line connected to the banjo bolt, and then I removed the banjo and just pumped into the holes where it connects).  It built up pressure (maybe 15 lbs) if I pumped fast enough, but then the pressure didn't stay at all.
I think this sounds like the ALDA seals are leaking.
If that is the problem, I suppose it could just be coincidence that this started on the day I adjusted my linkage and idle speed.
Oh, and yes.  If it's not broken, I won't fix it.  I hate learning that lesson over and over.
Thanks.
Mike
P.S. I am selling this car today.  It runs very well for a 389k '84.  It just  doesn't drive the way it used to.  He has a good attitude, and the price is relatively low.
P.S.S. I have told the buyer everything I know about the car.  He knows I am trying to work out this problem.  I just don't want to give the impression I am one of those guys who rigs up pieces of crap to sell at inflated prices.

So, I posted the FSM for the engine.  I went through the linkage section (page 65-69 for my car), and it didn't help completely.  I now have the full throttle stop adjustments right, but I still lack power, especially when I come upon a hill.  When I have cruise control on at 55, I sink down to about 50 when I hit an incline of any mention.  This is unusual since a few months ago I crossed the country with it set at 55 and never dropped below 55, even in mountainous areas.
It actually takes off pretty well on level ground, and it's not too bad starting off on a little hill, but it's not like it used to be.
Incidentally, this is a converted veggie car, and the symptoms are present on both diesel and veggie, so the problem isn't fuel filters.
I'd like to fool with the ALDA, but it's already adjusted to its counter-clockwise limit.  I was thinking of putting in a shim to get some extra range of adjustment.
Thanks.
Mike

That would be a good idea since I can't get that bit torrent to work. Please let us know if it happens.

maybe someone could post a PDF File on the home page ? .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Oh , NO !

I, for one, am grateful for Nate being able to collect and trap all of the fungus out there, so that I can remain fungus free. Maybe it is Pasadena? Maybe it is his fuel depot? Or, maybe his neighbors sneak over and pee in his tank.

Hello All

I am changing the o-rings on my wife's 1986 300SDL.
The valves are held in place with torx bolts.
One has a stripped head.

My plan is to grind it off with the sand paper drum tool on my Dremmel
and replace it with a hex bolt.

Is this a bad idea? Is there a better way to do it?
I have already tried to use vice grips to get the torx bolt out.

thank you
Rodger
