My 83 has the same problem with the steering lock pin. As long as I
don't let the pin drop I have no problem. Keeping the wheels turned
slightly when removing the key works.

[diesel_mercedes] 1987 MB 300 SDL Ignition Lock Problem
My ignition lock locked up twice last week. I still had about an inch of play in the steering wheel but no play with the key in the lock. The mechanic (not a MB shop) said my lock is old (probably the original from 1987) and replacing it should take care of the problem. I paid $340 and picked the car up on Friday.
Today (Saturday), I had the same problem occur in a low shopping mall garage. No tow truck fits under that low roof. It took about 20 (twenty) minutes of trying to get the lock to release and turn again. I started the car and drove home to feed my animals. When I wanted to start the car again the iginiton lock was stuck again.
I tend to think there was nothing wrong with the old lock and the problem was misdiagnosed. What do you think the real problem is ?

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Computer Help
Ha ha ha! You seem to feel the same way about Jobs that I do about Gates....
I CAN'T run Windoze on MY Macs, 'cuz I run old PPC-based Macs. You can only run Windows on Intel-based Macs.
Like my wife's Macbook. It's Intel-based. She's from Russia, where Macs are used only by weidos and outcasts. (The same holds true there for diesel-engined car owners, btw....) The only way I got her to accept it was because it could run Windows, but I never got around to setting that up. Now, three years hence, she wants nothing to do with Windows. My youngest brother, a die-hard MicroSoft fan from the MS-DOS days, got his Macbook for the same reason, and WAS running both OS's, but, now says he goes months without firing up Windows. (He's the senior editor at Edmund's.com, and LIVES off his laptop.) My father and sister both switched to Intel-based Macs in the last couple of years (on my brother's recommendations), and have no regrets at all. There's that age-old saying, "Once you go Mac, you never go back"....
I've worked on many platforms over the past 25+ years: Windows-based systems; Sun SparStations running first C+ and later Solaris; AutoZone's system is Linux-based. Wavefront on Silicon Graphics. And, of course, Macs since '84. Besides that initial porting of Wavefront to Silicon Graphics (when we were told "Those are not bugs, those are FEATURES!"), without a doubt, the most troublesome systems were the ones running MicroSoft. All that time and energy and money to "protect" your computer from some goofball in his parent's basement with nothing better to do than try to cause trouble for billions of people. That and the hardware seems to have a lifespan of just a few years. IF that! Then, the next Windows version comes out and finds all the current hardware lacking....

I wish it was the clip to raise the hood to the service position. It's the outer arm, forward piviot pin. Looks like the hood will have to be removed to do it, hence a 2 person job.

Not everything is made to run on non-Windows operating systems.
I just bought me a nifty HP color laser printer at the Ultimate Electronics "Going Out Of Business Sale". I've been dying to get such a beast for years; now, I was finally able to get one for a decent price. Only problem is: There are no drivers for this particular printer to run on the Mac OS. I'd return it, but, all sales are final. So now I'm going to have to download X-Code and jigger something up. SHAME ON YOU, HP!
Having said that, I'm seriously considering putting Ubantu on my daughter's Dell laptop. We've had it for about a year and a half, and it's been more troublesome than the 3 Macs in the house have given in 5 years, combined. She insisted on it because she wanted to play some games that would not run on the Macs. (In reality, she mostly uses it for media production. Hello! Mac!!) A few months ago, something got in there that crashed the hard drive, so THAT had to be replaced. Now, it's running REALLY slow, and just randomly shuts down. If it wasn't for Costco's complimentary extended warranty service, this thing would have been in the dumpster months ago.
We're going to have to do SOMETHING with this Dell. It was supposed to last her through college, another 8-10 years. I'm loathed to dump computer hardware that's younger than that (I'm typing this message on a 14-year old Mac 8600 PowerPC running Tiger, soon to be upgraded to Leopard). If Ubantu will give the Dell a second chance, well, that may be a better destiny than the landfill....

You just point and click and there are drop down menu's etc. Everything is there, you get to choose which browser and mail program you prefer, the office suite is very powerful as is Gimp the Linux version of Photoshop. Again though everything is free. With regards to virus's and malware etc you would have to actively install it for it to work and that includes stuff coming through Internet and mail and you would need to be quite clever to be able to do that.Any other programs you might want to install are in the depository, CAD programs, Astronomy, Ham radio, Geniology, Finance and hundreds of other including of course Google Earth, Picasa etc again all for free. When you are connected to the Internet there is a thing called Update Manager, opening this shows a selection of improvements and advances that have been made to the system or to programs in the depository ensuring that you are always up to date. Twice a year in April and October Ubuntu is renewed thus the releases 11.04 (now) and 11.10 in the autumn. There's lots more here are 25 reasons:
- Ubuntu is Free and so any other Linux distro. (Saved ~ $250)
- You don't have to buy Office (Word, Power-point, Excel etc.) separately. It comes with OpenOffice preinstalled. (Saved ~ $200)
- You don't have to buy costly hardwares for the basic need. (RAM. Processor, HDD etc.)
- Ubuntu is more stable.
- You are free from Viruses so you don't have to buy another upgrade of Norton or any other Antivirus software. (Saved ~ $75)
- When you have installed Ubuntu, you don't have to install anything else to get you started with your productivity.
- You don't have to wait for years for the bugs to get fixed. You can track them down in Ubuntu.
- You can update everything on your system with just one update manager. No need to run separate Update manger for all the softwares you installed. (Saves your system resources.)
- Don't get tired restarting your computer all the time. You do it almost never with Ubuntu.
- You are free from Pirated softwares. With Ubuntu you can share it with as many people as you want and it is LEGAL.
- Don't have to bother searching the web for new softwares. Ubuntu gets a whole lot of software free of cost to you.
- Play hundreds of games for Free.
- Your PC won't get slower day by day. It happens in Windows only.
- Use MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Gtalk, Yahoo and many more with a single program. No need to install separate software for the same thing.
- Tired of managing multiple windows on your screen. You can use workspaces to manage your work.
- You old computer will get a second life. Because Ubuntu does not need those high resources as Windows.
- Jump into the next generation of desktop themes with Compiz fusion and all with lot less resources than Windows Vista.
- With Ubuntu, you are always free. Free as in Freedom and in Free Beer. Ubuntu is free and will always remain free. (Saves ~ $200 every 2 years when Microsoft releases a new version of its operating system and you have to buy it.
- All future upgrades of Ubuntu are provided free of cost. Upgrades are released every 6 months.
- Upgrades are installed automatically. You don't have to bother about losing your data and redoing lots of personalization. *Edit* The updates are installed with your permission and only if you want them…not in the background without you knowing it.
- You can tweak your desktop wallpaper or any other setting the way you want it. You can make it look like Windows or Mac (if you want.). You can even get the sidebar you were fascinated in Vista.
- You don't have to defrag your hard disk every now and then to boost the performance. Ubuntu does it for you automatically.
- You don't have to go to a shop to buy operating system. You can download it anytime you want it and burn it on a CD. You can even burn it on a re-writable CD to save some CDs.
- Thousand of user are there to help you with when you are stuck. Become a part ofUbuntuforums.
- You will get free and Long Term Support (LTS) for Ubuntu. Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop version also will get a LTS. )
I think these many reason are enough to get you started with Ubuntu or any other Linux flavor. Keep visiting this blog for more information on Linux, Ubuntu in particular. If you want to try it now you can download Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) now and later it will be updated to the released version.

Nate, The inability to start anti-virus is a key indicator your system is still infected with a virus. The previous suggestions have been good, but if you are still unable to resolve the problem I may be able to help remotely. You can send me an invitation off-list to remote into your computer. We just need to coordinate a time – I’m in Central. Sunday or Monday would be better, as I’ll be away from the computer most of today. To send a remote assistance request:
