Many places made up Aluminum tanks , some replaced the spare tire and are *very* sought after by folks who don't think much , others are of varying sizes and some fill most of the trunk .
I *think* what the original poster was thinking of , was the factory accessory spare fuel tanks that were steel , painted red and designed to use the un used side well of the trunk , these are very nice indeed
and still made , I saw an add for one last year , about $45 IIRC .
Once in a while I see these in older Volvos too .
I'd think one would be handy for a dual tank system as you only need a little bit of Diesel fuel ,to start up on in cold weather , right ? .

The system is designed to run the AC compressor anytime the " Defrost"
is used as this way it A. de humidifies and so clears the screen faster and
B. cycles the AC system to lubricate the compressor and keep the seals from leaking.

Max Asked :
One of those WVO conversion outfits had one that fit into the spare tire area.
Does anyone know if the air conditioner will not come on if the outside temp is
too cold? Max

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Custom truck gas tank for 123 from 80s or 90s
I've seen those come through the San Jose PAP, though not recently. The ones I saw used up most of the trunk space, not just a corner, used to wonder if the car so equipped had air suspension or some such, had to be a lot of extra weight in the trunk.. bk --- On Thu, 3/3/11, longhairedhippieartist <dezski@pacbell.net> wrote:

My Mercedes mechanic told me that back in the 80s or 90s some outfit was selling aluminum spare trunk gas tanks that fit neatly in the corner of a 123's trunk. They were actually made for the 123's trunk. This would be the ideal 2nd tank for a 123 running on WVO. I'd love to find one of these. Does anyone recall these or have they seen any of them? I can hope I find one in a trunk at a Pick a Part. Or maybe I can start phoning around to the various Mercedes websites that you can call for used parts. [diesel_mercedes] Custom truck gas tank for 123 from 80s or 90s
