I advocate you keep waxing it. It will continue to preserve the finish, such as it is, and keeps you intimately knowledgable about the condition of your car. Should serious rust even begin to develop, you will detect it and be able to address it before it gets out of control.
Maybe you could have the clear coat resprayed in the most badly affected areas...?

My 1982 Turbo Coupe is light metallic blue. Paint is all original and no body damage ever on my car. But the paint is faded, clear coat bad on top surfaces and discoloration around the filler tank.
Does it matter if I continue to wax the car? I don't plan on having it repainted, I am hooked on keeping it all original.
