Recently Tom and I went to Dallas TEXAS where I bought an old 1969 Chevy C/10 pickup truck and drove it back to L.A. , having fun ever since tinkering with it , repairing the many DPO & DPM bodges & deferred maintenance items , driving it instead of my trusty 1984 300CD Sports Coupe .
As it seems to suck quite a bit of gasoline , I did a fuel mileage check and GASP ! it only gets 13.3 MPG's and I only drive it 55 on the freeway , no Hot Rodding this thing .
As always , my Mercedes was waiting for me quietly in the driveway , when I cycled the glow plugs in the 50° cool morning air , the battery charge indicator said I only had 10.3 VDC but , it lit right off and I held it to a quick , 700 RPM idle whilst backing it out of the driveway , setting up the heater & radio to the News .
It's good to be back in the MB Tex saddle again , 80 + MPH down the serpentine , more or less deserted Pasadena Freeway was fun as always , blasting past the early morning putt-putters going below the speed limit because they're afraid of the many blind corners .
