Thank you for the advice. It's the wee hours and I'm up with insomnia, partly due to my beloved car.

While stuck at home, to the best of my abilities, I will scope out the items you mentioned. It could be more than one problem. The sound was a very loud banging/thumping. The first time I heard it I had been on the freeway for almost an hour. I'll try to get it to run and record it again. When I got it to run late yesterday it sounded like it was gonna blow all sorts of parts in every direction. The engine shook like it was ready to launch right out of there. If I can get it to run I'll check for smoke color.
