As Kevin suggested, the most common fault on these transmissions is the (infamous) B2 servo. Check this link:

When was the last time the transmission has been serviced (meaning, filter and fluid change)? It's possible the filter is a bit clogged, causing a low pressure problem.

I was driving home from work today and my 300SD tranny let go, I think ? It will not engage in forward, the engine just revs, it will go in reverse. any ideas as how to troubleshoot this or other diagnostics are helpful.
