I recently added an '86 190D 5 speed to my fleet and while it looks and runs good, it has some climate control issues apparently due to a locked up heater box. The price for a new one is obscenely high and getting one from a PAP seems unlikely in terms of finding one locally or getting one removed and shipped. Any insights?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Heater box?
What does "locked up heater box" mean?
Climate control systems can be problematic. But the controls run duct and radiator systems that are pretty much like any car, I think. And the systems in a 190D should be essentially identical to any gasser in the same body class.
"Locked up" has that 'stuck door' kind of imagery, that so often refers to a non-working vacuum control valve, or a stuck hinge. So it may be that instead of looking at a big, expensive "assembly" you might be looking at a fix or replacement of a single part.
This is the kind of stuff that I always learn watching Nate work on vehicles.
