NO ! you cannot because the engine is different internally .
FWIW , once you learn to properly tune it up and do a valve adjustment & Diesel Purge , new fuel filters & maybe a set of Monark fuel injectors , you'll find that although it's no fireball off the line , hills won't slow it down much , I used to rally my NA Mercedes Diesel and it outran lots of " Sports Cars " .
Expect to spend some time and effort & $ too , getting it properly sorted out , these are REALLY good drivers , economical and safe too .
