in closing, regarding this project, watch whomever does it, to make sure
they thing "long term".......Caulking eventually fails. If it should be
flashed, with galv. or aluminum flashing, have it done. They'll try to tell
you calking is guaranteed for 35 years...yeah, sure, and, they'll gladly
replace the price of the caulking if it fails, but not the damage or labor.
I try to use aluminum or copper flashing metal, if possible, sometimes lead
or tin sheet.
Galvanized is good for a long, long time, but, if affordable, I go with the
others.
But, that's just me.

consequences of actions, long or short term.

I'd worry you get weather sealing via caulking instead of flashing, and
things like that.
