yeah,
I've noticed that it starts ok if I hold the key on while it's trying to
start. Between the random firing and the starter, the engine gets going
enough to build enough compression/heat to go......
It wouldn't seem so hard on the starter, since, it's running almost with the
engine, instead of just trying to spin it, almost a "boost".........

I do notice, though, a huge difference if I've had the block heater plugged
in for at least a couple of hours.
Much easier starting........

so,
I would make sure yours is working properly, if you have/use one.

Just some random thoughts.....

P.S. As my handbook says don't start like a car.It may take 1.5
minutes of not interupted cranking to get her going.Like starting a
airplane.It won't hurt the starter.Mine I barely give it the
pedal,maybe a 1/16th. Reason The pump to the floor does not work.I
think it floods my cylinders.
